This unit describes the skills and knowledge required to work with basic information about the human body and to recognise and promote ways to maintain healthy functioning of the body.

Course Delivery

This course will be delivered in the workplace or at an CAS Training, training facility.

Course Duration

  • Face to face – 10 hours (minimum)  – full face to face course.
  • Blended delivery – 7 hours (minimum) face to face course – with the addition of 1-hour self-paced learning to be completed prior to attending the face to face course
  • Refresher training – 7-10 hours  (minimum) – conditions apply for this option, for example, you will need to provide previous current certificates.

Work Placement Arrangements

No work placement will be required as part of this course.

Assessment Requirements

Individuals undertaking this course will be expected to complete both written and practical assessment tasks. These are detailed in the sections following.

There are no prerequisite, entry, work-placement, licensing or certification requirements for this course.


What happens at the course?

Assessment Theory

Question paper detailing the knowledge requirements of the course such as:

Basic structure and functions of the body systems and associated components

Processes, conditions and resources required by the body to support healthy functioning

Body regulation including:

– Maintenance of body temperature

– Fluid and electrolyte (including PH) balance

– Elimination of wastes from the body

– Maintenance of blood pressure

Protection from infection

Physical activity active and passive


Assessment Requirements

Physical demonstrations (skills)

The simulated assessment environments will reflect the real-life working environment where these skills and knowledge would be performed, with all the relevant equipment and resources of that working environment.  Skills must be demonstrated by the student working individually in an environment that provides realistic in-depth, industry-validated scenarios and simulations to assess students’ skills and knowledge.

It’s important that students have knowledge of the content of this course. The assessable practical skills are listed below.

You will be assessed scenario and task demonstrations to work effectively with information about the human body and its healthy functioning:

Knowledge of the basic structure and functions of the major body systems

An ability to accurately use common health terminology

Knowledge of the healthy functioning of the body

Basic maintenance of a healthy body
